Women of the Week!

Wylene Burch is the president of the Howard County Center of African American Culture
"I see her as a good business woman because she wants to preserve the African American history that Howard County has to offer. She has started a children's library and a museum with artifacts from early 1900's.  Shes well known throughout  the African American community in Howard County. She holds a talent show and events like Men in the Kitchen, Kwanza, Juneteenth events every year. I admire her because shes been doing this for 25 years and never gets tired." Submitted by Chaye

"To me, Billie Holliday is still one of the most iconic African-American women in our history. She crossed color lines to become one of the most famous singers in history and did so with class and style. While her beauty is undeniable, she also was intelligent and imaginative. Not only did she sing, she wrote her own songs as well, a feat some of today's artists still haven't grasped." Submitted by Toni
